Brian Edmonds       Contemporary Landscapes

Statement

"I am at war with the obvious." These words were once uttered by William Eggleston. Those words resonate and propel my work. There is little more obvious than the Southern landscape; full of lush colors that push and pull the eye of the viewer. My work takes into account the obvious then submerges it beneath layers of color that attach themselves to the shapes that represent shadows, roads, and the beautifully unexplained. My viewpoints are simple, looking down and out from the mountain or looking through a window as it all passes you by.

Harper Lee is a part of this landscape. Her words and characters are familiar to all Southerners. They are full of the innocent that soon realizes something is amiss. These paintings are dedicated to the forgotten, stillness that once populated our land.
